PowerPoint Teaching Resources for Lecturers
This resource is an introduction to the principles of timber engineering and the checking of the capacity of timber members and connections. The resource is divided into discrete topics, forming 15 modules. The PowerPoint slides in each module are designed for lecturers to use as a foundation for their lectures. They can select particular slides from each of the modules and present them in a way that suits their style of lecturing and fits with the content and time constraints of their course. The presentations can be used 'as is', but lecturers are free to choose to modify or amalgamate modules as required to suit their needs.
The resource has been developed in such a way that the sequence in which the information is presented is logical and builds understanding from easier to more difficult concepts. Lecturers may also like to refer their students to the Introduction to Timber Engineering Learning resource in the Learning Resource section of the timber.org.au web pages.
Access
The PowerPoint presentations are available to lecturers only through the secure site. Lecturers must register with the Program by completing the section below. If you already have access to other secure teaching resources on this site, you will be able to use the same log-in user name and password for this resource.
Overseas lecturers - please complete all sections of the sign-up form, and include a url for your department's web page in the 'Reason for access' section. If the url is not included, we must decline your request.
PowerPoint files
The PowerPoint files are generally less than 1 MB each, so can be downloaded quite easily. Most of the slides aren't animated. However, there are some that use animations to more clearly present some of the concepts, but they can be removed if lecturers prefer. (Please check the slides before presenting them to your students to avoid any surprises!)
