Bushfires

Although timber products can catch alight in a fire, timber's natural insulating ability can in turn cause it to form a protective char layer.  As part of the testing of various timber species for use in bushfire-prone areas, a number of species exhibited the ability to performance similarly to that of fire-retardant treated timber [as defined by AS 3959 Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas].
