Program Information
The Technical Resources Program aims to offer assistance to lecturers at Australian tertiary institutions as they prepare courses or units that include timber. Access to up-to-date resources ensures graduates are well rounded in their education, and equipped to use timber confidently and competently.
The Program commenced in 1996. Since that time, it has provided hundreds of teaching packages for lecturers all over Australia.
The Program is divided into four sectors:
- Support for University lecturers in Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Building courses is provided by TimberED Services.
- Timber Queensland provides support to TAFE lecturers in Queensland, WA and Northern Territory
- Timber Development Association New South Wales provides support to TAFE lecturers in NSW and SA
- Timber Promotion Council Victoria provides support to TAFE lecturers in Victoria and Tasmania
The Techncial Resources Program supports timber education and training by:
- Developing and distributing a range of resources– PowerPoint presentations for lectures, on-line learning resources, reference material.
- Maintaining a list of lecturers with an interest in timber education. This network list includes timber industry representatives as well as lecturers.
- Distributing a quarterly newsletter to keep network members up to date with the availability of new teaching resources, recent developments in the timber industry, topics of interest.
- Responding to technical queries on timber use and design
- Responding to queries relating to curriculum development and incorporating timber into courses.
- Providing relevant technical information. FWPA and most State and sector Timber Associations have also set up their own web pages for dissemination of information and publicity of their publications.
The Technical Resources Program - Supporting Timber Education & Training is administered by Forest and Wood Products Australia (FWPA) - a coordinating body for research activities within the timber industry. Its activities are funded by an industry levy, with a contribution also from the Commonwealth Government.
